PBL Workshop
8.14-8.18

Descriptive Reflection: I spent the week working primarily with the STEAM team as we continued our work on feedback, reflection, and assessment in student-led learning. I spent a couple of days refining my reflection questions, researching the different types of reflection, and planning for our upcoming STEAM-wide DEAR: drop everything and reflect!. Some of the refining process for the feedback cycle included introducing it to my colleagues and running through a feedback cycle for the 3rd grade team. Additionally, I spent time working on vertical alignment with the middle school French teacher, and cross-curricular programming with the middle school ELA team. Finally, I spent time updating the parent pages in my ePortfolio to reflect the updates and changes made to my curriculum as a result of the PBL work completed this week.

Dialogic Reflection: This was a fairly productive week, although not as productive as it could have been. Part of this was my fault. I struggled to get into gear on Monday, and was frustrated with my inability to focus. This made it difficult for me to settle on a task and see it through to finish. Part of my struggle was setting; I struggled to work indoors with little fresh air. This is always a struggle for me and I should have opted to work in my classroom. I also don't find our library to be a space that inspires me. When this became too problematic, I moved to the STEAM space to work and that was helpful. Part of my struggle was also pacing. While I appreciate abundant work time, I think I could have also benefited from slightly more structure, because hearing others' ideas can really help when I'm stuck, and I felt a bit stuck this week. I think adding some guardrails in terms of timing can also be helpful if people are getting off track, and that often happened to me.

Critical Reflection: Despite the difficulties in terms of focus that I experienced this week, I was able to make some progress with my curriculum. I think that my students will greatly benefit this year from refined processes, updated and refined instructions and project sheets, and the time and space that this week provided for thinking about curriculum from the balcony view before heading down into the weeds when the school year starts.
